Domain-initial effects on C-to-V and V-to-V coarticulation in French: A corpus-based study

چکیده

This corpus-based study investigates whether and how coarticulation is modulated domain-initially in French. Post-boundary IP-initial sequences were compared to the same sequence word-medial position according composition structural link between elements of that sequence. We examined 4 cases coarticulation: C-to-V within syllable #CV #VC. sequences, across syllables #V.C anticipatory V2-to-V1 #V1.C(C)V2 sequences. Coarticulation was determined by amount spectral change formant vowel /a/ its context: an alveolar vs. uvular C context for coarticulation, a high low V V-to-V coarticulation. The analysis 15,000 tokens revealed can be prosody but this effect appeared depend on relationships (the relation sounds relative each other structure) A reduction only found two (VC V.C sequences). Interestingly, larger heterosyllabic These results are discussed terms difference coupling proximity boundary. They suggest relations constrain prosodically-induced variation.

The Effects of Prosody on French V-to-V Coarticulation: A Corpus-Based Study

This study examines whether the degree of vowel-to-vowel coarticulation in French (better known as “vowel height harmony”, V2-to-V1 henceforth) varies as a function of position in prosodic domain (i.e. IP initial vs. word-medial) and duration of V1 (i.e. short vs. long). Following the literature on the phonetics-prosody interface, segments at stronger edges are more resistant to coarticulatory ...

Prosodic constraint on v-to-v coarticulation in Japanese

Coarticulation is considered to be constrained by language specific grammar. In particular, prosodic units, which have an important function in organizing speech, are likely to affect the extent of coarticulation. The present study addresses the question of the relationship between V-to-V coarticulation and bimoraic foot in Japanese. It was shown that the foot boundary constrains the extent of ...

Prosodic Boundary Effects on Segment Articulation and V-to-V Coarticulation in Standard Chinese

This paper investigates the prosodic conditioning of the segment production and vowel-to-vowel coarticulation in the Standard Chinese through electropalatographic and acoustic analysis. The articulatory and acoustic measures were obtained for un-aspirated alveolar consonant /t/ and vowels /i/ and /a/. Results show that the domain-initial consonant is strengthened in a hierarchical manner in hig...

Resistance to Flow in a V-Shaped Bottom Channel

Water flow in open channels is always subject to the resistance to flow and energy dissipation. For design purposes, one of the needed variables is the hydraulic resistance coefficient. For this mean, the influence of cross-sectional shape together with secondary flow cells and lateral distribution of true boundary shear stress have not yet been fully explored. This paper surveys the number of ...

The CC-V Flap: A Novel Technique for Augmenting a C-V Nipple Reconstruction Using a Free Dermal Graft

BACKGROUND We present a novel method for augmenting the standard C-V flap used for nipple reconstruction with a free dermal graft which aims to improve the appearance of the nipple reconstruction, decrease loss of projection and improve patient satisfaction overall. METHODS The surgical technique for performing a free dermal graft augmentation of a CV flap is described. All patients who unde...
